Web High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Wednesday, 26. April 2023

Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only player to make it to the closing poker table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest gamblers in the world. While wagering on internet poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. He often participates in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus more often than not buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all-in. I know Hansen is an excellent poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is flat broke, he has no reason to sit at the game with the minimum buy-in.

Buying in for the min takes most of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be one of the greatest poker players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total dollar value. I think television can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The best players in the world might be guys you have will not have heard of. Gus can be found gambling on net poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in big stakes omaha/8 and Holdem. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in cash rounds?
