Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 in which he liked taking part in numerous card games when he was young. He discovered himself becoming very aggressive in these particular card games as he was competing against his father. After graduating from high school, Howard decided to put college on hold for a bit and headed to New York City to play some formidable chess. While participating in chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were difficult as he played extensive hours and do not win a majority of the time. He earned some additional money by being an runner for the poker enthusiasts. He judged he possibly could better his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He made an effort to acquire more sleep and concentrate even more on the game.
The real advancement in his skills happened when he began playing at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the greatest gamblers would often compete against one another. Howard had access into some of the greatest players in chess. With their help, Howard Lederer would hone his logical thinking abilities. Howard applied these strategic concepts to the game of NL holdem.
He also assisted his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. Annie was a superb student of the game as she would always be asking questions about how to make the proper choice. He told Annie to head out to Vegas and play in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Annie is one of the best women players the poker world today. Howard Lederer headed to Sin City in 1993 and participated in cash games for the successive 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, he decided to play more tournaments.
