Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 where he enjoyed participating in different card games at a young age. He theorized he possibly could better his game by balancing his life away from poker. He brought about an attempt to acquire more sleep and focus attention more on the game.
The real improvement in his game happened when he began gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the the most favorable gamblers would often play against one another. He was able to access a number of the greatest minds in chess. With their help, he would sharpen his cunning thinking abilities. Howard applied these strategy concepts to the game of No-Limit hold’em.
Howard also helped his sibling Annie Duke learn the game of poker. Annie Duke was a superb student of the game as she constantly asked questions about how to make the proper decision. Howard Lederer told Annie to move out to Las Vegas and play in the WSOP tournaments. Annie Duke is one of the strongest women players the poker arena ever. Howard Lederer relocated to Sin City in 1993 and competed in money games for the subsequent 10 years. When the WPT gained popularity, he made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
