In holdem, the first step is to get the card game started, and for this the players put out a particular amount of money. ‘Posting the blinds’ is the commonly used term for this play. In the following step, the croupier shuffles the cards and deals two cards face down to all players. A normal deck of 52 cards is used in the deal. Then there is the first round of wagering. This round is often known as a "pre-flop".

Following the 1st betting sequence, the top card is tossed aside. This discarded card is referred to as the "burn card", and this is done to ensure there is no dishonestly. The next three cards are then revealed face up on the poker table. These cards are ‘the flop’. Now follows a second sequence of wagering, after that the croupier throws away another card and turns over 1 more card onto the table. After this, competitors can utilize the 6th card to create a five-card poker hand.

Another sequence of betting follows, and in many styles of games, here is where the bet size doubles. There is a further round of tossing aside a card, and a final placing of a card face-up on the table. This is known as the "river". Competitors can now utilize any of the five cards on the table, or the two cards that they are holding, to form a five-card poker hand.

To finish it up there’s a further round of betting. After that, all the players left start to show their hands. This is called the "showdown". Clearly, the player who has the best hand wins. When competitors have equal hands a sharing of the pot is used.

Texas hold’em is a basic game to pickup, but to achieve prowess one needs a tonne of studying.
