Web Big Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen
Monday, 7. December 2009
Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only one to make it to the closing poker table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a big pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest gamblers anywhere in the world. While wagering on online poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus often competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen frequently buys in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is penniless, he has little or no reason to sit at the table with the minimum buy-in.
Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is presumed to be 1 of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full dollar value. I believe tv can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The best poker players anywhere in the world may be guys you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen competing in net poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in big stakes Omaha and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his skills in money rounds?
