Gaming chips have been made from a huge selection of materials in an almost infinite variety of variations since the creation of betting and the need to track winnings. The most commonly seen components used at this time in the manufacture of cutting-edge poker chips are plastic, clay, and acrylics. Clay chips, the oldest of the bunch, have been manufactured in the US since the late 1800s.

Back in the 1800s, poker enthusiasts seemed to use any tiny valuable item imaginable. Early poker enthusiasts occasionally employed jagged gold pieces along with chips – normally made of wood and clay. By the 1900s, poker chip features started to play a bigger prominence, and the smooth edges of older chips were given up to chips with slits to hold them neatly stacked with each other.

There is no debate that poker has expanded steadily in acceptance since its origin in the 1800s. With the explosive advancement of online gambling and specialty TV shows, public appeal in poker has accelerated faster than ever before. Most folks are initially introduced to poker by television showslike "Celebrity Poker" or the Travel Channel’s "World Poker Tour," and many will play their initial hands online. Despite online poker’s growth, not much competes with the feeling of holding weighty clay poker chips in your hands, throwing chips into the center of a casino table, or stacking tall pilesstacks of chips after showing a winning hand.
